Adoption of the agenda

The agenda was adopted.

Consideration of the draft report of the Security Council to the General Assembly

The President

The Security Council will now proceed to the consideration of its annual report to the General Assembly, for the period from 1 August 2005 to 31 July 2006.

The introduction to the draft report was prepared by the delegation of France and the factual contents were prepared by the Secretariat. I should like to express my appreciation to the delegation of France and to the Secretariat for the work they have undertaken in preparing their respective contributions.

I should like to point out that the format of the draft report now before us corresponds to the provisions initially set out in the note by the President of 22 May 2002 (S/2002/199) and now incorporated in the note by the President of 19 July 2006 (S/2006/507).

I now call on Mr. Tuliameni Kalomoh, Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, to make an explanatory statement.

Mr. Kalomoh (Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs)

I have the great pleasure to present the draft annual report of the Security Council for the period 1 August 2005 to 31 July 2006, to be submitted to the General Assembly pursuant to Article 24, paragraph 3, and Article 15, paragraph 1, of the Charter of the United Nations. The factual information contained in the draft report before the Council was prepared by the Secretariat in accordance with the provisions of the note by the President of the Security Council of 22 May 2002, contained in document S/2002/199, and now incorporated in the note by the President of 19 July 2006, contained in document S/2006/507.

The draft report before the Council provides a guide to the activities of the Council in a concise and comprehensive manner. Of particular interest is the introduction to the report, which was prepared by the delegation of France. The Secretariat wishes to express its appreciation for the introduction by the delegation of France.

The President

May I take it that the draft report is adopted by the Council?

There being no objection, it is so decided.

This decision will be reflected in a note by the President of the Security Council to be issued as document S/2006/942.

The Security Council has thus concluded its consideration of the item on its agenda.

The meeting rose at 10.25 a.m.
