Letter dated 25 April 2006 from the Chairman of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1540 (2004) addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/2006/257)
The President
The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda.
Members of the Council have before them document S/2006/263, which contains the text of a draft resolution prepared in the course of the Council's prior consultations.
Members of the Council also have before them document S/2006/257, which contains a letter dated 25 April 2006 from the Chairman of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1540 (2004) transmitting the report on the implementation of resolution 1540 (2004).
It is my understanding that the Council is ready to proceed to the vote on the draft resolution. Unless I hear any objection, I shall put the draft resolution to the vote now.
There being no objection, it is so decided.

There were 15 votes in favour. The draft resolution has been adopted unanimously as resolution 1673 (2006).
